The title for this picture has changed every time I’ve shown it over the years. I ended up giving it to my old friend Sheldon Stanleigh for his wedding, but I didn’t frame it, so it’s probably long gone. And so it goes.
Thinking back to when I made this is wistful. I wish I felt like things had changed more for me in the decade that’s passed. I was still on-and-off with Sarah, still showing at little coffee shops in Kensington Market and at the Green Room. I still thought I would graduate, still thought I’d be a success by 30. Before Thex, before Obama and Harper and the g20 and New York and Occupy and The Hive and scenic art and before I lost all of those things too.
